The Sierra’s
Sierra, my love, You came to me
As a ruby throated hummingbird
Shimmering in the dry, high noon heat.
Dust on my feet, reddened earth.
High up, above the sparkling blue of the Pacific
I came to know you.
So different from the soft rolling hills of England.
You were raw and wild and wonderful.
You filled up my eyes and nostrils ,
With your fragrant stillness.
I became immersed in you
And I loved you
And you became
My Beloved.

Listening Deeply

On the breath of an exhalation
The tide ebbs back into the sea.
Worms slide back into the dark earth.
Rock pools left behind under the raw sun
Shimmer under the unsheltered sky.
My ears fill up with Silence ,
Loud , Deep , Deep as the ocean.
An echo in a cavern . Far below the surface of the earth,
Images come , And go. Magnificent and fecund.
Dry and surreal ,  In the noon day sun.
Now my mouth Fills with the taste of Stillness.
Smooth and even , Flowing a river. Silent roar, lost in Stillness.
An echo , A heartbeat in the Chasm of Time.
